One of the best ways to stay fit, walking bestows great benefits. But walking in the heat or cold can take the joy out of it.

Hundreds of adults walk at area malls. Malls open before the stores do. Some walkers arrive as early as 7 a.m. Volunteers help track miles walked. Mall incentives, such as towels or tote bags, help keep walkers motivated.

Walking is fun and friendly. Regulars get to know each other in a safe comfortable setting. Mall walkers can also participate in a chair exercise program.

LifeSteps is a joint effort of Senior Resource Alliance, Winter Park Health Foundation, Heart of Florida United Way, Florida Hospital, Orlando Regional Healthcare, Health Central, Central Florida YMCA, Seniors First and area malls.
