Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly
The Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP) is a federally funded program,
which helps eligible seniors pay their home energy (heating and cooling) bill, if there is a crisis. These benefits may include utility payment assistance and weather related supplies.
To qualify:
- You must be age 60 or older
- Meet citizenship requirements
- Meet income eligibility requirements (low income)
- Have a past due statement or cut off notice from your utility company
- Persons age 60+ on Food Stamps automatically qualify
If you want to apply, you must have the support of a community caseworker.
The caseworker will make the application on your behalf.

- Benefits subject to availability of funding and approval.
- Maximum benefit per season per household is $600
